NRI Pulse Staff Report

Atlanta, GA, September 27, 2018: An 11-month-old Indian-American baby has died following a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Hyderabad.

“We are aware of the very sad news that a young child passed away at Hyderabad International Airport this morning,” the airline said in a statement.

“Our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts are with the affected family,” it added.

A spokesperson for Qatar Airways said that the baby, identified as Arnav Varma Alluri, had been on the flight with his parents in the early hours of Wednesday.

The parents became aware that their child was having breathing problems after the plane had landed as they made their way to the immigration counter, the spokesperson said.

Arnav was immediately rushed to the Apollo Medical Centre, located in the airport, at 2:29 a.m., about 50 minutes after the flight landed, but was declared dead upon arrival.

A spokeswoman for Hyderabad airport denied that the baby had died while at the airport.

“We’re awaiting for investigations to conclude and for official reports from both Qatar Airways and Apollo hospitals on the baby’s death,” Sangeetha C R said.

The Varma family live in New Jersey.
