The Return of Bohemian Chic

Bohemian fashion affords its wearer a casual, yet earthy and chic look.
NRIS! Do you know?

Ok, so it’s no surprise by now. I know you all have seen Indian-styled tunics being sported in such retail giants as Banana Republic and Nordstrom. The return of what fashion ateliers refer to as “Bohemian fashion” has certainly captured the imagination of the casual, yet trendy, consumer, and retailers have taken notice.

What was once perceived by many as a semi-vintage and even maverick in appearance, Bohemian fashion today has been redefined as a niche for a newly found international, yet earthy and chic look. Influenced largely by the very different Gypsy, Morrocan, and Indian cultures, Bohemian fashion is a bit deceiving in its appearance; indeed, one look at the ruffled peasant skirts, long tunics, fuller pants and skirts, and soft embroidery and nature-inspired motifs, and even the most trained fashion eye may be left with the impression that these garments are strictly casual (as the ensembles, at times, can appear to be ‘thrown together’ in a random fashion). In reality, Bohemian pieces are painstakingly detailed and influenced from a rich, diverse assortment of customs, and, conveniently, transcend several eras of fashion design.

But perhaps the most appealing facet of the recent Bohemian trend is its inherent eclectic character affords a great deal of flexibility for the retail consumer. By its very nature, Bohemian fashion is a melting pot of various ethnic, elemental, and vintage ideals; by combining the customary with the novel, Bohemian fashion allows its wearer to literally mix and match pieces to create a truly innovative and individual look.

For example, you can mix an existing solid-color top you currently own in your wardrobe with a long, tiered peasant skirt to achieve the Bohemian chic look. Or, if you prefer wearing jeans, you can combine a soft, crinkled, cotton tunic with your favorite pair. The possibilities are endless.
With its wide assortment of colors (ranging from pastels to earthy, brown tones) and varied palette of fabrics, prints, embroidery, and even accessory items, Bohemian fashion could be here to stay for quite some time. It affords its wearer a casual – yet drastically unique and chic – look, while also providing a great deal of flexibility.
