Six Things Women Should Never Do with their Make-Up!

Renu's top don'ts for Fall 2005.
NRIS! Do you know?

As an image consultant, I see make-up mistakes all the time; while some are small, others can lead to more serious issues later on...all of them are avoidable. Here are my top six “DON’TS” for Fall 2005:

DON’T #1
Your mother already taught you this – but don’t ever sleep with your makeup on! It’ll suffocate your skin and cause all kinds of nasty eruptions... not to mention the fact that you’ll never get that eyeliner out of your pillowcase! Seriously, there are enough products out there, such as Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes, so you don’t have an excuse not to!

DON’T #2
Picking your pimples (which you probably got by not washing your face at night!) will only irritate your skin, increase scarring, and perhaps give you an infection. Wash well with anti-acne cleanser, use a hydrocortisone cream or Mario Badescu's famous Pink Drying Lotion.

If you must cover your bump, dab concealer right on top of it with a cotton swab or a clean cosmetics brush. Let it dry a bit; then smooth out the sides. Don't rub the area; it will only get more irritated and red. The less makeup you use, the better. Once the concealer is dry, set it with loose powder and fluffy brush.

DON’T #3
If your neck is a completely different color from your face, you are wearing mismatched foundation. A different shade of foundation isn’t going to make you look gloriously tanned or porcelain-skinned (whichever look you’re going for); it will only make your face look dirty. Do yourself a favor and get thee to a MAC or Prescriptives counter, or to L’Oreal Perfect Match at your nearest drugstore and find your perfect shade of foundation!

DON’T #4
The most flattering eyebrow color is a shade lighter than the darkest part of your hair. Don't go more extreme than that. If your hair is blonde and your brows are shoe-polish black, you'll look like Madonna in her ‘True Blue’ phase, way back in 1986. Even she couldn’t pull that look off for very long!

DON’T #5
Pretending to be Tammy Faye Messner... really, if your eyelashes look like runaway spiders, you’ve overdone the mascara. Eyelashes are delicate, and should accentuate the shape of your eyes, not overwhelm them. Caked, dried, clumpy mascara can actually make lashes fall out, so keep it feather-light, and change the bottle every three months. If you want high-impact, DiorShow Mascara amps up the voltage without the flaking and clumping.

DON’T #6
If you look like you’ve been drinking hot chocolate all day, and you haven’t actually been, then chances are that your lip liner seriously needs to lighten up! Dark, dark lip liner went out of style so long ago, that I’m not sure it was ever really in! Get something that matches the color of your lips – it’ll make your mouth pretty, and keep your lipstick on longer. MAC Spice looks good on everyone.
