Wrap Up This Fall With Shawls, Ponchos, And Fur

Take advantage of this season’s wide range of fashion offerings and heat up your wardrobe, says CHRISTINE PHILIP.

Ok, its getting cold. As the next few months move closer, make sure your closet is stocked with the right necessities for this winter season. In the past, men and women were confronted with two options when it turned unpleasantly cold outside: a heavy, wool sweater or a laborious and often burdensome coat. This winter season, consumers have a veritable bevy of options, with shawls, ponchos and fur accessories making a comeback.

When searching for that perfect shawl or scarf to accent your wardrobe, don’t go for just a typical black or cream colored one; stand out this season with chic colors like baby blue, kiwi green, and chocolate. There are a multitude of design patterns and fabrics to choose from, so you won’t have any issues finding something you feel comfortable in. If you’re going out for the night, drape a wool, silk or cashmere (my personal favorite, of course) shawl around your shoulders and connect it with a brooch at the center or a side for a touch of elegance. It’s a classic look that you can’t go wrong with this winter.

Ponchos are no longer reserved for a night out line-dancing or for staff at a tex-mex establishment; not limited to cowboys and girls today, ponchos have made a surprising foray into high end couture fashion. Valued highly for their versatility, ponchos can be worn casually or for a night out on the town this season. They can be worn over a blouse or a sweater, creating a layering effect, and definitely add a touch of exotic flair to any winter ensemble. Try a crocheted poncho worn straight or asymmetrically across the body with a pair of denims and stiletto boots.

Fur, faux or the real deal, adds the highest degree of glamour to an evening gown. Can’t afford a fur jacket? Go ahead and splurge! Just kidding. Today, designers offer a variety of styles, textures, and prices with furs and fur accessories, so everyone should be able to locate a fur-inspired jacket or accessory in their preferred price-point.

Take advantage of this winter season’s wide range of fashion offerings and heat up your wardrobe – whether you’re skiing in Aspen or just doing some Christmas shopping, wrap yourself up with something that won’t just keep you toasty, but looks fabulous for any occasion.
