The Dream Mile- A few Miles for a million Dreams

Its early fall, and The Annual Vibha 5K Dream Mile brings old and young alike in an atmosphere of competition and fun.

Vibha volunteers are hard at work scouring malls, subdivisions, schools and public events registering participants for the Dream Mile which is scheduled for 8:30 AM Saturday, Sep 18, 2010 at the Georgia Tech Campus in Downtown Atlanta. Participants can register at www.thedreammile.org or at the event. The early bird special for registrations ends on Sep12th for $15. After sep12th it will be $20. Kids under 12 can register for free.

The organizers plan to make this the biggest "Dream Mile" event to date. The event provides a good opportunity for serious or casual runners/walkers to test their skills.Awards will be handed out for the overall winners as well as within different age categories in both running and walking, thus providing ample opportunity for young and old alike to nab a trophy. A Kids Carnival is being planned after the event to entertain the kids. Refreshments, drinks and a free Vibha T-shirt will be provided to all the Dream Mile participants.

This year will be the 12th year of the Dream Mile. Since 1998, the race has brought thousands of people together every year, with the common hope of making a child's dream come true. To date, The Dream Mile has raised more than $800,000 and supported more than 50,000 dreams of providing education, health care and opportunity to children.

This year, the organizers/volunteers of the Atlanta Dream Mile have upped the ante. They have set a target of raising 100,000 dollars and 2000 participants for the Dream Mile. Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta is chosen as the local beneficiary and 15% of the proceeds will go to Children's health care of Atlanta.

Vibha also hosts a pledge drive as part of the event, thus providing those who cannot participate in the race an opportunity to get involved. As an individual, you can make a pledge as well as sign up to become a fundraiser for the race. The funds raised through The Dream Mile go towards supporting projects in India and the US. Several action centers identify a local beneficiary at the onset of the race season, thus giving back to the local communities in which they live and operate. Echoing the setiments of the previous participants Mr. Narender Reddy said, “It is hard to say who I should congratulate for the success of this event…the volunteers who were at every turn of the 5K trail and manning the registration booths etc. or the organizers who spent countless number of hours planning to make this a successful event. My congratulation to all who preferred to walk/run/volunteer in support of a noble cause.”

As Ralph Waldo Emerson famously observed, “Nothing great is achieved without enthusiasm”. You had to be there to see the spirit and enthusiasm of the volunteers. Organizers invite you all to participate the noble cause. For further details visit www.ThedreamMile.org/atlanta or contact Srinivas Vemulapalli at 6785238247 or email at Atlanta@thedreammile.org
