“Nupur” Celebrates 4th Annual Dance Function

“Nupur” a Dance Academy in Naperville, Illinois held its 4th Annual Dance Function at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago on 11th of March, 2006. Seventy students of Nupur ages 4 to 14 danced to an audience of over 400 people and showed off their wonderful talent in dancing that they have groomed over last months and years. Mrs. Sonia Agarwal, Director of Nupur Dance Academy, welcomed the guests and praised the students and their parents for the hard work, dedication, and sincerity.

Dr. & Mrs. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, past governor of Lions Clubs International District 1-A, honored the occasion by their presence as chief guest and spoke words of praise and encouragement to all present.

The students performed a variety of Indian Folk and Bollywood dances. It started with a dance dedicated to Lord Shiva, a Bharatnatyam composition performed by Sarika Gupta. This followed by all the latest Bollywood numbers ‘Salaam Namaste’, ‘Just Chill’, ‘Tauba Tauba’, ‘Kajra Re’, and many others. Girls and boys put their best foot forward engrossed in their songs and performances. A proud Sonia says “she was really happy by the performances of her students. They all were at their best. The students and their parents had put in a lot of effort which showed on the stage. We have come a very long way from last year.”

Sonia, along with Rashi Kaushik, is launching in April a unique “Dhoom” Workout which is choreographed as a fusion of Bhangra and Bollywood dances in an aerobic style. They gave a 6 minute preview of this exhilarating and energizing workout.

All in all, it was a very well organized 3 hour program enjoyed by everyone. The students were recognized by trophies given out by Mrs. Terry D’Souza. Towards the end, the students were asked to say a few words on how they felt about being part of Nupur. They all echoed that they totally love learning dance at Nupur, and vehemently praised Sonia as a patient and wonderful teacher, and were thankful to their parents for their continued support and encouragement.
