Asianet TV’s ‘America Today’ Focuses
on Life in US

Asianet USA is bringing in an exciting new show to present the unique and
interesting aspects of life in America to Asianet TV's global audience. The new program is named 'America Today'. The core team that produced and anchored over 60 episodes of another Asianet USA production 'US Weekly Round Up' is instrumental in putting together this show as well.

Since 2003, all the major Malayalam television channels have commenced
satellite broadcasting to audiences all over the United States. Asianet, Jeevan, Kairali and Surya TV are all available to viewers in the United States.
Asianet USA has been particularly successful in increasing their subscriber
base in the United States by producing local programs, featuring news and
information about NRIs, entertainment based programs featuring Keralites living in the United States.

Currently, Asianet USA produces the highly successful program 'US Weekly Round Up'; a film based program 'Hridayapoorvam Americayil Ninnu'; American Thozhil Avasarangal; and other special event programs. Following Asianet USA's strategy to get more connections through featuring local programs in its weekly schedule, Kairali TV has also started broadcasting a news magazine show 'Kairali USA News'. Jeevan TV also started broadcasting a US based news program in September 2004.

The intention of 'America Today' is to inform and entertain the global audience
through a program format that will be a combination of 'news+sancharam+sayahnam' shows on Asianet - but focused on United States. The program will be presented in four segments - Happenings, Around America, Lifestyle and Trivia.

Happenings segment will focus on coverage of news and events in the U.S. This will be 5-8 minute coverage on American, Indian and Malayalee events. The segment will also feature youth events and will be presented in a traditional news format with two anchors. Interviews with renowned Indian and American personnel's will also be included occasionally.

The segment on Around America will be featuring America's major tourist
attractions. The purpose of this segment is to present America's landmarks to
Asianet audience globally.

Lifestyle will be a 3-5 minute segment featuring unique lifestyle in America.
This will also focus on different businesses and occupations in the US.
Trivia will provide a very interesting piece of information to Asianet audience. This segment will also be featuring a question for the audience each week.

The original team that anchored and produced over 60 episodes of US Weekly Round Up has decided stop production of the program from New York. Asianet USA has decided to move the production of this program from Dallas. Therefore, the core team that produced the program for Asianet USA will now be on the new show America Today.

The core team members are Suresh Babu Cheriyath (executive producer), M R Rajan (chief producer), Sunil Tristar (producer), Sagil George (director),
Dr.Krishna Kishore (anchor), Lucy Kuriakose (anchor), Alka Nair (anchor), George Thumpayil ( news editor), James Tristar (studio manager), Saju Kuriakose (finance) and K K Nair (administration). The members of the team have lived in the United States for over 20 years; and have strong experience in broadcasting and journalism with Asianet, All India Radio, Kerala TV and other leading newspapers.

“'America Today' will be different in content and presentation from current Asianet USA productions," said Sagil George, the program director.
