Fabulous New Year Eve Party at Impact Conference Center

BY MAHADEV DESAI

Belly dancer Andrea Moreira entertains!
The New Year’s Eve Party, hosted by Sanjay Patel and his wife Panna Patel, owner of Atlanta’s well-known Impact Conference Center at the Global Mall attracted over 150 invitees, no doubt lured by the Invitations’ tempting beckoning, “Hum sab manayenge jashan naye saal ka; naach gaana aur intazam karenge jam ka” !

Among the social glitterati from all over Atlanta and even as far as California, were Shiv Agarwal, philanthropist and the genial owner of the Global Mall, ever-helpful community activist Mustafa Ajmeri (India Tribune), co-host of highly popular Radio Program Music from India on Atlanta’s WRFG89.3 FM; Ms.Manorma Pandit; author, doctor, speaker, comedian and Associate Prof.at Emory School of Medicine, Neil Shulman, M.D. Doctor Shulman lit up the party because of his infectious laughter. He believes in joyful laughter, the laughter that fills the heart, bridges fear and mends.TV Asia’s Hon. Atlanta Representative, Pushpendra Bansal, and his wife Sangita Bansal and the Banquet Manager, Impact Conference Center, Alibhai Asani put up an eye-catching display of stage and hall décor. Hitesh Chowdhary, Anubhav Jain,Ramesh Vasnani and B.D. Agarwal also deserve a pat on their backs for helping out with the party.

The stage had huge silver-painted cutouts of 2006 as backdrop. The hall was festooned with multi-colored balloons and streamers and tables with party hats, noise- makers and artistic floral décor. The giant screen displayed awesome fireworks and enhanced the flavor and ambience of the party. Mr. Bansal welcomed all the celebrants, wished them a Happy New Year and invited DJ Bobby to set the ball rolling. DJ Bobby did a fabulous job and ruled the floor with his state of art musical instruments and vast repertoire of choicest bhangra beats, Bollywood chart-busters and fusion’s catchy tunes. ‘Nach baliye’ and ‘dhoom machale dhoom’ with pulsating beat had all either tapping their toes or stomping their feet. Drinks (on the house) helped the blood flow faster and delicious finger food that tickles your taste buds, catered by culinary expert Pannaben energized the guests. Soon the guests began intermingling with hearty handshakes and hugs. The piece de resistance of the fun-filled party was of course, the belly dance by the vivacious Brazilian ballerina, Andrea Moreira. Clad in a sparkling costume, she mesmerized everyone with her sensuous dance. It was like a scene from Arabian nights! Only the hookahs were missing! Winsome and energetic Andrea moved effortlessly on the floor, creating waves holding castanets in her supple hands, dancing around the tables, inviting others to join her. The circle of dancers grew bigger and bigger. Bobby provided non-stop music as the tempo gathered speed. As the partying continued, the clock inched closer to the much awaited figure 12! Everyone put on party hats, and armed themselves with noise-makers. Champaign corks popped; the countdown began. Twelve, eleven…Fireworks exploded on the screen. Balloons were showered down. The happy shouts of Happy New Year brought the roof down as the exuberant revelers hugged each other. Mouth watering menu of North Indian, Gujarati and Indian-Chinese food awaited all. The party continued in the wee hours of the night.
