Johns Creek, GA: The community is coming together in prayer as it mourns the deaths of the Grover family in Johns Creek on February 4. Shivinder (Shiv) Grover, 53, his wife, Damanjit Kaur-Grover, 47, and their two sons, Gurtej, 5, and Sartaj, 12 were found dead inside their Aylesbury Farms apartment.
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, the two children, Sartaj and Gurtej died from homicide by sharp force injuries to the neck; their mother, Daisy Kaur, died from homicide by blunt force trauma to the head; and the father, Shiv, died from suicide by hanging.
“It’s still an active crime scene,” said Johns Creek police Chief Ed Densmore during a news conference. “It’s still fluid. We haven’t wrapped up that portion of it, so I’m not prepared to answer anything as far as motive or anything along those lines.”
This is Johns Creek’s first murder case since it officially became a city in December 2006. Neighbors in this predominantly Indian community were visibly shaken at the magnitude of the tragedy. Those who knew the family said it was unimaginable to think this could be a murder-suicide.
Shiv Grover’s facebook page lists his current employer as Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, where he was vice-president. He was an IIT Kanpur alumnus, and had an MBA from the University of Michigan. His wife Daisy worked in healthcare at Emory University. The boys attended Wilson Creek Elementary and River Trail Middle School.
The family attended the Sewa Gurudwara Sahib in Roswell, where a vigil was held for on Tuesday. The funeral for the family was held at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, and was attended by family members and friends of the Grovers.
