Indian jewelers foil robbery attempt outside Alpharetta hotel

Atlanta, GA: An family of out-of-town jewelers foiled an attempt by two men to rob them after a jewelry expo at the Marriott Hotel of Windward parkway in  Alpharetta, police said.

The incident occurred on April 29 around 8:30 p.m, according to local media reports.

Surveillance video shows the Indian origin family loading jewelry into an SUV after hosting the jewelry show at the hotel when a black, newer modelToyota4-Runner backs up toward the family’s car. Two men jump out of the Toyota and attack the family.

According to the police spokesperson one of the suspects pepper-sprayed the family, while the other suspect tried to steal a suitcase with jewelry. But the jewelers fought and got the jewelry back. In the scuffle, one of the robbers had his shirt ripped off and he ran away shirtless into the black SUV before they drove away.

Two of the jewelers are from Charlotte and two from India.

The family sells jewelry all over the country and at the time had about $100,000 in merchandise with them. They said they have never experienced anything like this before, reports wsoctv.com.
