Indian student shot dead on Thanksgiving Day; suspect arrested

Atlanta, GA, December 1, 2019: A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of an Indian student in San Bernardino on Thanksgiving Day, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The incident occurred at a motel in the 100 block of south E Street at about 12:37 p.m. on Nov. 28.

When officers arrived, they found the victim down on the property with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Abhishek Sudhesh Bhat, a resident of San Bernardino, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said, the suspect fled on foot, but later he was identified and turned himself in to authorities on Nov. 30. The suspect, Eric Devon Turner, is a 42-year-old resident of San Bernardino.

The victim was studying to get his master’s degree in computer science while working part time at the motel where he was killed, according to reports in the Indian media.

Bhat was from Mysuru, reports India media, although his Facebook profile lists Udupi as his hometown. He moved to San Bernardino in March of 2018 and began studying at California State University. He also worked as a teaching assistant at the university.
