Fine cultural representation of Telangana at GATeS Bathukamma and Dasara Sambaralu

Atlanta, GA, October 15, 2021: Yugal Kunj glistened with vivid and vibrant flower arrangements / decorations at the grand annual Bathukamma and Dasara Sambaralu event hosted by Greater Atlanta Telangana Society (GATeS) on October 10, 2021. This year marks the 16th year of celebrations in Atlanta by GATeS.

A fine cultural representation of Telangana, Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack, arranged with different unique seasonal flowers most of them with medicinal values, in seven concentric layers in the shape of temple gopuram. ‘Bathukamma’ translates to ‘Mother Goddess come Alive’ and Goddess Maha Gauri-‘Life Giver’ is worshipped in the form of Bathukamma – the patron goddess of womanhood, Gauri Devi.

“With every passing year, GATeS has been setting a new standard for Bathukamma celebrations of successful, memorable yearly events,” noted Kishan Tallapally, President, GATeS. The Bathukamma festival was celebrated with rendering of Telangana cultural folk songs as they clap hands while revolving around the Bathukamma, synchronizing their steps and claps in unison to provide a splendorous look to the festivities. GATeS EC, BOD Team and Cultural Secretary, Sandeep Gundla, worked diligently with local artists in an effort to prepare wonderful Bathukamma and folk songs focused on bringing out the true importance of Bathukamma festival celebrations and the bounty of Telangana’s nature.

MCs Jyothsna and Saritha kicked off the the celebrations with artists and singers Srinivas Durgam, folk singer Janardhan Pannela. The event also featured performances from Dance academies of Neelima Gaddamanugu, Garima Dance Academy and Bathukamma song dance performances by Snigdha team, Battini Sisters. Bathukamma Immersion and Pallaki Seva marked the end of the celebrations. BOD-Anitha Nellutla worked with all women groups to prepare bathukkammas on the special day. Best Bathukamma prize categories in Group winners, Individual winners and the Sports games winners were awarded.

GATeS President Kishan Tallapally, Chairman Chittrai Pabba briefed about GATeS services, Bathukamma & Dasara Sambaralu celebrations and memories of GATeS past years’celebrations, thanked all generous event sponsors, donors for their continuous support, Advisory, EC, Board of Directors, committee chairs, volunteers, singers, dance academies, Photographers, Videographers, DJ and media partners for their many hours of work and commitment. Dr. Srini Gangasani received appreciation for the best social services to the community during global pandemic.

GATeS BOD and past chairman Anitha Nellutla, briefed about Bathukamma Festival and thanked all the women or their support and time and recognized yearly Volunteer teams-helpline team, scholarship team and all GATeS Volunteers with special Thank You Note from the current GATeS leadership.

GATeS deliberates social services here in Atlanta, USA and back home in Telangana, India with various helping programs to community – Feed the Needy, Monthly Food Drive, Winter Clothes, Distribution to the Needy, community Sports, Helpline support, scholarship program, Yoga –Virtual Classes, Awareness Seminars Conduct, Back home –COVID Support and Needy scale projects in rural areas of Telangana.
