Google doodle celebrates India's first passenger train

New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) With a chugging train trailing a plume of smoke in a backdrop of palm trees and what looks like a palace with domes and minarets, Google’s doodle Tuesday celebrated India’s first passenger train journey.

On April 16, 1853, the first railway on the Indian subcontinent ran over a stretch of 21 miles from Bombay to Thane in what is now Maharashtra state.
The google doodle, in vivid shades of orange and yellow, showed a steam locomotive pulling a passenger train along a palm-lined track.
The front of the engine formed one of the two `Os’ of Google.
