Largest South Asian LGBTQ+ & GNC gathering to focus on creating safe spaces

Austin, Texas, February 28, 2020: In the last few years, there’s been a distinct shift in the number of South Asians coming out and embracing their queer identity.

DesiQueer Diaspora 2020 Conference, the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ & GNC South Asian, Indo-Caribbean, and folks that identify within the South Asian Diaspora will be held from May 15-17, 2020 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Austin – 6505 North Interstate 35, Austin, Texas, 787521.

Earlier conferences (DesiQ), held in 1995, 2000, 2006, and 2013, brought together hundreds of LGBTQ+ & GNC South Asian and Desi people from around the world to discuss political and cultural issues facing the community.

The conference is being hosted by DesiQueer Diaspora with the intention of creating diverse and liberation-oriented safe spaces as well as building vital bonds of community and friendship and strategizing around the current and future political battles.

DesiQueer Diaspora 2020 welcomes all LGBTQ+ & GNC people who trace their ancestry to South Asia,” said a press release issued by DesiQueer Diaspora. “Through scholarships, programming, and more, DesiQueer Diaspora 2020 is working to bring people at the margins of our communities to the front and center.”
