Tasveer becomes first South Asian arts organization in the US to enter distribution space with TasveerTV

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, March 12, 2021: Tasveer launches TasveerTV, the first-of-its-kind virtual cinema platform dedicated to South Asian content and creators. TasveerTV will serve as a virtual theater with specially curated content from our favorite South Asian creators. The platform will champion independent films and other media content created by South Asians and their diaspora worldwide.

TasveerTV will also share revenue with the creators to support the sustainability of their careers. With the launch of this platform, Tasveer takes another step in pioneering initiatives and opportunities for South Asian artists in the US.

TasveerTV’s initial offerings include the award-winning and heartwarming feature documentary AUNTY SUDHA AUNTY RADHA, by renowned Indian director Tanuja Chandra. The film follows two widowed sisters, aged 86 and 93, who have retired to their village, and whose days are spent with their adopted family of domestic help. It’s a funny, beautiful, and inspiring story of oddball characters that shows what it means to live life with meaning, regardless of age.

Ronak Shah’s debut feature LOVE GOES THROUGH YOUR MIND (Austin Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of LA), about a South Asian-American family that is forced to confront taboos when their son is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, is also featured on the platform.

TasveerTV also includes several short films from the US, Canada, Pakistan, India, and more, available to rent as themed packages. These films come lauded by film festivals across the world, including Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, BFI London, Cinequest, BBC Asian Network, Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Rhode Island, LA Shorts, Asian CineVision, and many more.

TasveerTV will feature a rotating selection of films available for a limited time, with many titles not available elsewhere. TasveerTV will also host virtual Q&As with some of the filmmakers. TasveerTV’s launch comes on the heels of another distribution initiative announced in January, with Tasveer’s partnership with Alaska Airlines. Tasveer’s curated selection of South Asian films available as in-flight entertainment on all Alaska Airlines flights, marks another first for expanding the reach of South Asian storytelling.

TasveerTV can be accessed via tasveer.tv.
