Volunteers Clean Cobb County Road On Sewa Day

Atlanta, GA: Sewa International USA celebrated  “Sewa Day 2014” at over 20 locations in theUSAinvolving volunteers in the Indian, Indian-American, Hindu and other communities.. The objective was to bring together a diverse group of volunteers representing professional bodies, associations, linguistic, temple, spiritual, social and cultural organizations for a day of community service. Hundreds of volunteers of different ages and backgrounds from Sewa International and partner organizations worked on a variety of projects at locations across the country to make a difference in their communities.

Volunteers in Atlanta,Georgia cleaned up and maintained a neighborhood road in Cobb County as part of the Adopt-A-Mile program.Atlantavolunteers have adopted NorthChruch lane Road inCobbCounty(Smyrna), GA. Volunteers go there every three months and clean this one mile road and then report back to the county about their activity. “This effort not only help our local communities we live in but also helps our local counties. For Sewa International this program helps in building bonds between sewa volunteers with local community members,” Sewa’sAtlantachapter members said through a press release.

Sewa Day projects are scheduled at a few more locations such as in Pittsburgh where volunteers will serve at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Volunteers in theSeattlearea will plant and remove invasive plants at theMarthaWashingtonPark.

At many of these locations, Sewa International prepared or sponsored lunch for the volunteers and facility staff after the volunteer event.

Sewa International USA is proud to a part of this worldwide initiative to give back to our communities, and we thank all our volunteers, sponsors and participating organizations.

UKPrime Minister David Cameron is among many celebrities and dignitaries who endorsed Sewa Day. At the awards ceremony, he said: “I think Sewa Day is something really, really, special and valuable. As Prime Minister you see amazing things and get to meet amazing people but I think the thing that gives me greater pleasure than anything else I do is seeing these amazing examples of social action in our communities”. Vivek Oberoi, famous Bollywood star and brand ambassador for Sewa Day 2014 said, “I try to reach out and tell people that this (Sewa) is incredible. I think Sewa Day is a great platform and that it should be a celebration of humanity”.
