Dandi March II Held In Atlanta

A march was organized in the Atlanta area on March 26th to support Dandi March 2 – a worldwide Indian walk against corruption in India, a 240 mile walk from San Diego to San Franscisco. The Atlanta march was organized by the supporters and volunteers from 5th Pillar, Lok Satta, Bharat Swabhiman and Georgia Tamil Sangam.

The participants took a pledge to never offer or accept bribe and signed a petition to the Prime Minister of India in support of Jan Lokpal and to ratify UNAC.

The group is also going to do a token fast in the coming days in support of Anna Hazare who is going to fast until death on April 5th if the government fails to implement the Jan Lokpal bill with the demanded modifications.
Earlier, on March 12th, a 240 mile walk against corruption started at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, San Diego, went through Los Angeles and ended on March 26th at Gandhi Statue, San Francisco, California. Every major city in USA, 32 major cities in India and 10 other countries globally joined the movement by organizing supporting events on March 26th.
A group of NRIs, inspired by the historic march led by Mahatma Gandhi in India's fight for freedom from foreign rule, conceived Dandi March II to fight those who seek to loot and enslave their own country. The primary objectives of the Dandi March II are to push the government to enact Jan Lokpal bill and ratify UNCAC (United Nations Convention for anti corruption) & get the money stacked in other countries back to India which are designed to free India from the clutches of corruption.

The recent scams involving unimaginably big amounts of money, such as the Commonwealth Games, Adarsh housing scam of Mumbai, monumental corruption and plunder in the allocation of mining leases, serious allegations leveled against judges and even former chief justices of the Supreme Court , 2G scam which broke all previous records are well known. It is estimated that more than half a trillion dollars are stashed away in foreign havens since 1948, while 80% of Indians earn less than 2$ per day and every second child is malnourished.

This effort now has support from the stalwarts in anti-corruption movement and other progressive groups in India such as Lok Satta Party (Jaya Prakash Narayan, National Chairman), Youth For Better India (Hyderabad), People For Loksatta, India Against Corruption (Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal, New Delhi), The 5th Pillar (Vijay Anand, Chennai), Saaku (Bangalore) and Save India From Corruption - and the list continues to grow.

A team of 6 marchers (Jawahar Khambampati, Srihari Atluri , Kewal Parnani, Srinivas Nandiwada, Subhash Karri & Sunil Kumar) took off from work and completely walked for 240 miles for 15 days irrespective of severe down pour or hot sun or cold weather. And there came along around 500 NRIs supporting and sharing great ideas and enthusiasm while passing from city to city. The spirits were at the pinnacle on 26th March when Indians all over the world tagged along with them.
