Sai Temple Celebrates First Anniversary

The Shirdi Sai temple of Atlanta celebrated its first Vigrahapratisthapana anniversary (consecration of BABA's idol) at its premises recently. Nearly 3000 devotees participated in the 3-day event.

The event started on Friday 12th with Anugnya,Maha Ganapathy homam and concluded with Sahasrakalasabhishekam on March 14th.

Sahasrakalasabhishekam is a very sacred vedic ritual conducted by performing sacred ablution (abhishekam) to the presiding deity with 1008 kalasams. It is intended to sanctify and re-energize the deity as remediation for any mistakes committed in daily worship throughout the year. This particular abhishekam was performed according to Padma Samhita (a popular vedic scripture). It involves invoking all the dieties into the kalasams and performing Japa(chanting vedic mantras),Homa(offering prayers through sacred fire),Abhisheka(sacred bath). The presiding deity is invoked into the Pradhana kalasa and the energy from the sacred fire(yagna kunda) is transferred into the kalasam through vedic mantras. This water is then used to perform the abhishekam.

Under the supervision of priests Phani Kumar, Naga Ravi Kumar, Padmanabhan, SheshaShai and Vidyadhar Sarma, the Saharsa Kalasabhishekam event received praise from all devotees.

It is said that temple worship is done for the sake of devotees (Bhaktas) not for Bhagawan alone. It was proved right on the Sunday morning when hundreds of devotees performed abhishekam to Baba with their own hands and no one could miss noticing their happiness walking out of the sanctum.

The afternoon added more surprising bliss to Sai devotees as they witnessed Shanti Kalyanam to Siva and Parvathy, Sri Rama and Sita devi and a great gala decoration to Sai Baba (as if He is sitting in Lendi garden). Musical offerings of songs and instrumental play of flute and dholak by devotees added the extra punch to the event.

Everyone in the sanctum felt truly blessed to witness such a magnificent, well-organized event.
