Quest For Self Realization: Swami Mukundananda Enthuses Many During Atlanta Visit
BY JYOTHSNA HEGDE
Former IIT and IIM graduate turned ascetic, Swami Mukundananda was in Atlanta between August 1st and 13th at the Global Mall in Norcross and Sanathan Mandir in Smyrna as part of the yoga/meditation classes and spiritual seminars held across seventeen cities in USA under the auspices of Jagadguru Kripalu Yog (JKY), USA. The Atlanta programs were made possible by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of America, Atlanta chapter.
The sessions covered the five Vedic sciences - yoga, pranayam, subtle body relaxation, meditation and the science of proper diet along with spiritual discourses on matters of general interest. The JKY describes Radhey Shyam Yogasan as a simple selected set of yogasanas designed to keep all systems of the body healthy. The Radhey Naam Pranayam is said to be a set of breathing exercise imbued with Divine grace for enhancing the dormant 'Pranshakti' or vital energy, within the body. The Subtle Body Relaxation is described as an easy technique to relax and recharge tour body and mind. Roop Dhyan Meditation is said to be a unique and esoteric process of meditation for bridling the restless mind. JKY says it cleanses the mind from within, bringing about peace, concentration and purity. Science of Healthy Diet teaches about the nutritive constituents in vegetarian natural foods and proper eating habits that are beneficial for the body.
Speaking to this reporter at the Global Mall, Swami Mukundananda emphasized the importance of purification of the mind along with the benefits of Yoga exercises adding that the JKY programs incorporate both material and spiritual knowledge for complete physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual health of mankind. “To turn away from conquest of self and God realization” was his response when asked about the biggest flaw of human nature. Swami Mukundananda said he walked away from his corporate job in quest of self realization when the education he received was unable to answers his questions from a very young age such as ‘Who am I”, “What is my goal in life? “.
“Global Mall is happy to host JKY which helps overall humanity and societies grow physically, mentally and spiritually” Shiv Aggarwal of Global Mall quoted. Many followers of the JKY seemed to be enthused by the program. “The inspiration we get from Swamiji does all the good for you” said Amrit Shoor who came in from New Jersey as a volunteer.
Swami Mukundananda has worked with many communities in India, providing charitable services and establishing schools and hospitals through the mission of Shree Maharaj. JKY distributes clothes, utensils, blankets and such to people each year. Free medical, eye operation, blood donation camps are held on a regular basis.
