Philadelphia, PA: The student leadership committee of the Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF) announced recently that the 15th WIEF will be held at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia on April 22, 2011. The Wharton India Economic Forum is the oldest and largest student run forum focusing on Indian business.

The committee invites the public to gain insights from some of the world's top business leaders including prominent speakers: Bunty Bohra (CEO Goldman Sachs India), Sashi Mukundan (Country Head, BP India), Anoop Prakash (Country Head, Harley Davidson India), and C. P. Gurnani (CEO of Mahindra Satyam). Registration is available at http://www.whartonindia.com.
The theme for this year’s conference is: “India: Gaining Momentum.” The goal of this theme will be for panelists and attendees to discuss and ponder the methods by which India is rapidly innovating to adapt to a competitive global environment. Participants will gain an understanding of the sources of forward momentum and inertia in India while listening to speakers from fields such as (but not limited to): finance, infrastructure, energy, and retail.

At the previous year’s conference, over 600 attendees dissected the theme: “India: Breaking Boundaries”, gaining an appreciation for the strides the Indian economy has made recently. Keynote speakers included dignitaries such as Praful Patel (Minister of Heavy Industry) and Sachin Pilot (Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India), businessmen such as Aditya Puri (CEO and MD of HDFC Bank) and Atul Punj (Chairman of Punj Lloyd), and entertainers such as Anil Kapoor, Shankar Mahadevan, and Vidya Balan.
