New York, Jan 31 (IANS) A US court has convicted an Indian Sikh for smuggling Indians and Pakistanis to the US.

Harminder Singh, who is a citizen of India but a legal resident of Washington State, was found guilty Monday for bringing a person into the US illegally, transporting two and harbouring one illegal immigrant.

According to the police, Indian and Pakistani nationals used to pay large fees to be smuggled into the US through Canada, and Singh was the contact man who transported them to their final destination once they were in the country, reported seattlepi.nwsource.com.

Singh faces a mandatory minimum prison term of three years, but could be sentenced to as many as 10 years, a release from the US Attorney's Office said. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Following Singh's prison term, the government will seek his deportation from the United States.
